FAQs
Find answers to some common questions below.
Why are you called Therapy Shelf?
I (Andrew) lived a nomadic life during my associateship. I traveled from one office to another, carrying my therapy books and resources with me. One of the things I looked forward to the most about licensure was to have an office of my own with a bookshelf to store all this knowledge and my accumulated supplies. When we started Therapy Shelf, I wanted to help set up everyone with the wisdom and tools to practice therapy well. I wanted Chronicler to be on your therapy shelf.
How long does it take to write a note?
I (Andrew) have personally used Chronicler to write notes in less than two minutes, but my average is more like three and a half minutes. This produces a 5-paragraph note; I feel like that’s a great trade off. In our beta trial, we found that many users achieved similar note times after they became familiar with the program.
Do you have a free trial?
Yes! We currently allow our supporters to try out Chronicler for two weeks with no charge. While it does take a little while to get into the groove of writing progress notes with Chronicler, we feel the uptake time is well worth it. Think of how many progress notes you write. Let’s say you write 25 a week for 48 weeks of the year. If your notes previously took you 15 minutes to write, you could now save 240 hours of time. If your time is worth $150 an hour, that’s $36,000 you gain by using Chronicler. Now that’s investing in yourself!
How do I log into Chronicler?
Simply go to https://chronicler.therapyshelf.com/user/login, click “Login,” and enter the email address and password that you used to sign up for your subscription. You can also find this information by viewing the email receipt we automatically send to you after you start a subscription. Please note that this email may be sent to a separate email tab (as in Gmail). We also recommend adding the Chronicler link above to your internet browser’s favorites bar to get your progress notes done even faster.
Can I partner with you?
By far, the best way to partner with us is to refer us to your clinical friends and colleagues. We’re trying to bring all therapists on board this journey of revolutionizing progress notes because therapists and clients benefit alike from efficient notes. We will soon have ways for you to write us a review on our website as well.
You can also reach out to us via our contact us page for more details. You can also reach us there for discounts if you have a members list you would like to offer Chronicler to.
How does Chronicler work?
Chronicler works by letting you scroll and click through your way through a progress note. Andrew spent an absurd amount of time carefully studying different modalities and crafting suitable statements while Philip diligently created an efficient code to populate those statements quickly for you. All of this is hosted on the web so that you can access it from anywhere at any time.
Is Chronicler HIPAA compliant?
The good news is that we don’t store any client information, so HIPAA doesn’t apply to us. We don’t store any client data on our servers so there’s no need to worry. More specifically, when you create a new statement, you certify that there is no HIPAA related information in your created statement. Also, please note that you can use our edit-any-time feature to add confidential information to your progress note because no information from the changes is sent back to us.
Can I cancel my subscription at any time?
Yes. We will no longer change your card after your cancellation is processed, and you will receive an email confirming that your subscription has been cancelled. You will be able to continue to use Chronicler until the end of your subscription duration.
How often do you release new features?
As fast as Philip’s fingers can code them! We are continuously researching and developing helpful improvements, so you can expect a steady stream of enhancements and innovation in our pursuit to make a better progress note experience.
There are a lot of interventions. How can I sort through them?
We made Chronicler to be easily searchable. You can type in the intervention descriptor, the intervention statement, the modality name (like “cognitive” or even the acronym, such as “cbt”). You can also go to your settings (press a button in the upper left corner) to access a list of our currently supported modalities. From there, you can select or deselect modalities to customize the provided statements for your practice.
Will Chronicler's progress notes work for insurance?
With an in-depth treatment plan accompanying your progress notes (and the added details such as session date, time, name, treatment location, etc. that most EHRs automatically apply) our progress notes should. I (Andrew) know should statements are cognitive distortions, but I say “should” because we can’t guarantee that they will even though I designed them to. I spent days on the phone with different insurance companies and, while it covers everything they stated, there isn’t a way to validate progress notes before submission. Furthermore, insurance companies often benefit from vague instructions. At the end of the day, your notes are your responsibility. That said, every pdf, textbook, or insurance website that I can find says that our notes are overly sufficient.
Does Chronicler do treatment planning?
We do have a treatment planning option in settings although it’s in an unpolished state currently. Our treatment planning prototype is now available for anyone with an active Chronicler subscription.
